Colour & emotions…..
Something that I love is colour, why do we love some colours, why do we wear certain colours, why to we feel so at peace in the green lush bush and rainforest? Why do we feel so calm watching the big blue sky or watching the turquoise ocean???
The psychology of colour is based on the mental & emotional effects colours have on sighted people in all facets of life, there are variations, interpretations, meaning and perception between different cultures.
But overall in art therapy, colour is often associated with a person’s emotions, warm colours such as red, orange and yellow can spark a variety of emotions ranging from comfort and warmth to hostility and anger. Cool colours such as green, blue & purple can often spark feelings of calmness as well as sadness.
Colour may also influence a person’s mental or physical state.
The concepts of colour psychology can also be applied in every day life for example, maybe your planning on re-painting your walls or redecorating a house or a room with a new colour scheme, you might want to consider some of these suggestions about colours and how they might affect your emotions and mood.
